By default, Excel creates a bar chart, not a histogram. If you really need a histogram instead of a bar chart, this episode will show you how to change the Gap Width to make a bar chart into a histogram.
Note the 5-second "fast motion" of creating the bar chart can be viewed in slow motion here:

Learn Excel from MrExcel podcast, episode 1952 - Change Bar Chart into Histogram!
Hey, welcome back to the MrExcel netcast, I'm Bill Jelen.
Today's question, sent in via YouTube, it said "Hey that's not a Histogram, it's a bar chart!
They're different!" And you're absolutely right, this is a bar chart, not a histogram.
In order to change it, we're going to right click on any bar, say Format Data Series, in Excel 2013 over here, on the right-hand side, you're going to take this Gap Width slider, and change it to 0.
Histogram!
What's that?
You say you're in Excel 2010?
Right click the bar, Format Data Series, change the Gap Width to 0, click close.
Histogram!
Well hey, thanks for stopping by, I'll see you next time for another netcast from MrExcel!
