Hey, welcome back to the MrExcel netcast.
I am Bill Jelen.
Now in the past, I've talked about using the format painter, as a great way to copy column widths.
If you're in Excel 2003 or newer though, there is also a new option on paste special that'll allow you to copy columnist in General copying Column widths is a real drag.
let's say that you know I have these five columns here and I need to copy them to another worksheet.
Well, one way to do is to go right here between the border of A and B.
And click and you'll see that it's 55 pixels.
We can go back to our other sheet and attempt to change this to 55 pixels But as you can imagine, it's just a very slow tedious process.
Particularly, if you had 10,15,20 columns to go.
Do this on and everyone was a different column with.
Well a cool thing to do.
I'm just going to go back to the first sheet and select the first row of cells and copy those to the clipboard.
Now I'll go back to my sheet where I want to fix the column list and choose five cells and from paste special.
Now in excel 2003, this is be under edit paste special.
There's a setting over here on the right-hand side called Column width.
We'll just click OK and you'll see that Excel will widen or narrow the Columns to match the original data set A great way to very quickly solve what has been a very tedious process.
Thanks for stopping by.
We'll see you next time for another netcast from MrExcel.
