Hey, welcome back to the MrExcel netcast.
I'm Bill Jelen.
You know I'd like to go out and do that my Power Excel seminars at sites around the country and every time I do one of these seminars.
I find something amazing happens.
There's always someone in the room who knows some trick in Excel that I don't know and this person is almost always in row 2.
I don't know why it is that they are in Row 2, but I know that I will always be showing up whenever, I go out and do a Power Excel seminar and usually that person's in Row 2.
This has happened so much, and I appreciate getting those new tips.
I have some special pins made up.
I don't know, if you'll be able to see this I'm into the excel Master pin with the Mr Excel logo, and I usually hand that out to whoever is the first person that show me up.
Well, today I have an email about one of an old podcast.
I'm gonna have to send one of these pins out to Scott.
Scott was watching podcast 449.
Where I talked about the the hassles of unhiding and hiding columns and Scott had what I thought was a great idea.
He said rather than hide columns group the columns that you don't want to see.
So, for example, I have a spreadsheet here and let's say that you know it's just too wide, I can't see all the columns and let's say that maybe, I don't need to see column C, D, E or F.
So, I'll select those four columns then go to the Data menu and choose Group and Outline and then Group.
Now, what will happen is that we have this brand new set of Group and Outline buttons at the top, along with a little minus sign.
If I hit the minus sign, I will instantly hide or collapse all of those group columns.
So, now I can see the columns on the left and the columns on the right.
Everything works great if I need to get the columns back rather than unhiding them, I can just very quickly hit the plus or even use the group and outline buttons over here to show all the columns hide the columns that I want to do.
I have to admit this is much easier than using format column on hide, don't hide those columns just using the one or two group and outline buttons or even the plus or minus buttons great idea.
Thanks to Scott for sending that in and by the way if you ever see something in a podcast, you can say hey there's a better way to do that.
Please feel free to send me an email, bill@mrexcel.com.
And we'll get that tip on a future podcast.
Hey, thanks for stopping by.
We'll see you next time for another podcast from MrExcel.
