Hey! Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast.
I'm Bill Jelen.
Today, we're gonna spend some time down at the lower part of our spreadsheet .
Looking at something called the status bar.
Did you know that you can add up numbers without any formulas at all?
You just select a series of cells that contain numbers and look down in the status bar, Excel will show you the total of those selected numbers.
Now, if you right-click that area you can change the sum to be an average, a min, max, a count or count of just the numeric.
It's all so strange that you can turn this off.
I had someone in one of my seminars, one say, hey that went away from me, how do I get it back?
And I had to say the completely ridiculous sentence of you need to click where it's not anymore, and choose Sum, if you click down here in the status bar, right click.
You can change it back to a sum and get it back.
Now, I'm showing you Excel 2003 right now.
But the features also in Excel 2007 and it's actually gotten much better and Excel 2007, if you select a range of cells.
The status bar shows you the sum the max, the min, the count and the average.
You actually have control over which items that shows you and you can put as many in as will fit.
So, I right click the status bar and I can say that I want to see the average, the count, the numerical count, the min, the max, the sum.
I can turn any or all of those on.
Along with a whole bunch of other new items, that are available in the status bar in Excel 2007.
It's a great improvement to a feature that not many people knew about in the first place.
Hey! Thanks for Standby.
We'll see you next time for another netcast from MrExcel.
