MrExcel's Learn Excel #372 - Custom Charts

Once you have customized a chart, add the chart to your library of user defined charts. You can then apply all of that chart formatting to a new chart with a single keystroke! Episode 372 shows you how.

Hey, welcome back to the MrExcel netcast, I'm Bill Jelen.
Here's a charting question that came up in one of my power Excel seminars last week, I think it's pretty cool, I wanted to share with you.
Usually in the seminar I show people how to customize their charts by right-clicking around the chart, to make these cool looking charts.
And then someone said “Once I've customized this, how can I apply this formatting to all future charts?” That's a great question: Once you select the chart, go to the Charting menu and choose Chart Type, then go to the 2nd tab, the Custom Types tab, and click on User-defined.
You now have a new button called Add, where you can add a type such as MyChart, click OK.
And if you really like this chart, if you want this chart to be used forevermore, click on the button that says Set as default chart, click Yes, click OK.
And then, whenever you have new data and you want to create a chart, you can simply select that data and hit one keystroke, the F11 key, and Excel will create a brand new chart, copying all of the formatting from your saved chart.
Great idea to save time, if you need to create charts and company colors, or something like that.
