Hey, welcome back to the MrExcel netcast, I'm Bill Jelen.
We've been talking about the Drawing toolbar for the past couple of netcasts.
Now, rather than just creating shapes on your worksheet, it's really interesting to create shapes and add text to the shapes.
So I'm going to go to my AutoShapes drop-down and choose a basic shape, just anything here, and click and drag to draw in the worksheet.
Now that I have the shape, I can just select the shape and “Type Any Text”.
Now initially, the text doesn't look that impressive, because it's just black 10pt Arial font or Times New Roman.
But what we can do, you'll notice that around the shape right now, we have diagonal lines.
The trick is to click on the diagonal lines to change them into dots, and now right-click, Format, AutoShape.
And on the Font tab, you can kick the font up to a bigger font, something more interesting, the plain black 12pt font, so let me choose some cool font here, click OK.
We also want to use the Center button, and on the Alignment tab we want to probably set the Vertical alignment to Center, so that we can Center our text inside the shape.
This is a very cool way to draw, to create headings, or create some visual interest at the top of your spreadsheet, to use text inside of an AutoShape.
