Create a Chart with One Click

Problem: I have to create a bunch of charts based on data I already have in Excel. How can I speed up the process?

Figure 994 Select the data including the headings.

Strategy: You can create a chart with one keystroke! Select the data, including the headings and row labels and press Alt+F1.

Figure 995 Press Alt+F1.

The data will be charted as an embedded chart on the current sheet, as shown above.

Caution: In Excel 2007, if your data includes dates as labels, the upper-left cell of the data range should be blank. Clear out the “Region" heading before using this trick. In Excel 2010, the problem is fixed.

Gotcha: This trick is awesome if you need to create clustered column charts with the legend on the right. The odds says that you have to create something else. Use the next topic to change the chart that you get with Alt+F1.
