Problem: I have a room that is 10 feet x 10 feet x 10 feet. How do I find the volume of the cube?

Strategy: The formula for volume is width x length x height. In this case, it is 10 x 10 x 10, or 103. In Excel, the caret symbol (also known as "œthe little hat," or "œthe symbol when you press Shift 6") is used to indicate exponents. Here's how you use it to find the volume of your room:

  1. In cell B2, enter 10.
  2. In cell B3, enter the formula =B2^3.

The result will be 1,000 cubic feet of volume in the room.

  1. The caret raises a number to a power.
