I have a spreadsheet that in column A I input a date when we complete "X" kilometers in column B
What I would like to do is count the days and provide an expected number of days to complete when I have a total Km we have days where no work is achieved so I can't deduct first date from last as that would be give a false average

Excel Facts

Do you hate GETPIVOTDATA?
Prevent GETPIVOTDATA. Select inside a PivotTable. In the Analyze tab of the ribbon, open the dropown next to Options and turn it off
Ok.

I'm not sure your layout but this should get you started.

Hi Brian yes I can see how that would work however I only enter a date against km so I dont put a date down when nothing is run, I could do it that way but was hoping for something a little neater
What I need is to count the days so it needs to be able to recognise that we haven't worked "x" days in between

Check out the link in my signature about posting tables as HTML. This is exactly why it is better to do that when explaining what you want to achieve. I'm guessing the below is more what you are looking for but if not please give some example data and an example of what you want to return. If this doesn't do what you need I won't be able to look at it any further without specific details of what you need.

OK if you can't use the tool that's fine. You could try http://tableizer.journalistopia.com. Otherwise if you explain in detail what you want and how it differs from my last solution I'll try to help. Try to be as detailed as possible, as you can imagine I do this on a voluntary basis and am quite busy so I don't want to develop solutions that are not needed.

Ok Brian
My spread sheet has lines (km) that we shoot in areas of the NORTH SEA so I have a column with the lines the next is the date when its completed and the next I have a column where I put c for complete p for part and r if it need to be re-run all the number stuff I have working but I'm trying to provide a completion date for the work If I take date last line minus date of first line I will get an average which is good, but as we have days not working what I would like to do is give a date should we have had continuous progress so i need to just have working days
does that make sence to you?

So each day you put in the number of kilometres you do with the date you have done it. From what you describe the solution I provided in this post would do what you need. Can you explain why that solution does not work?
