Hi,
I dont know if this is possible or not but thought I'd ask anyway.

I have a sheet of data and want to run a count on the values in Column A with the following criteria:

- If the value in column B is repeated then the value in column A can only be counted once...
- Column C must equal 'M'.

Example:
A.....B.....C
1.....42....M
1.....42....M
2.....41....A
2.....41....M
1.....56....M

In this example 1 would be counted 2 times, and 2 would be counted once.

I have about 15 sheets of data like this and would like a master sheet to look into each sheet and give me a count of each so id prefer to not use the advanced filter => unique variables option if possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dixon.

Thats superb.

Is it possible to change the formulae so it will work if there is text in column B??
It seems to work if there is text at the end of the string (1234C) but not text at the start (C1234).

Thanks for your help so far.

Try

=SUM(IF(FREQUENCY(IF(C2:C6="M",IF(A2:A6=1,IF(B2:B6<>"",MATCH(B2:B6,B2:B6,0)))),ROW(B2:B6)-ROW(B2)+1),1))

confirmed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER

HELP!

Is there a way to change the COUNT into SUM? So the results would be 3 instead of 2?

1 42 M
2 41 M

Sorry below is what I meant...

Is there a way to change the COUNT into SUM? So the results would be 98 instead of 2?

1 42 M
1 56 M

=SUMIF($A$2:$A$3,1,$B$2:$B$3)

=SUMIF($C$2:$C$3,"M",$B$2:$B$3)

=SUMPRODUCT(--($A$2:$A$3=1),--($C$2:$C$3="M"),$B$2:$B$3)

The latter on Excel 2007 or later would be:

=SUMIFS($B$2:$B$3,$A$2:$A$3,1,$C$2:$C$3,"M")

Note. Your question is not related to the distinct count question of this thread.

Sorry if this has been asked, but I'm really struggling to get my arms around this sum(if(frequency formula.

I have a database that is made up with complete sales order data, this is one record per item line and one order can have multiple item lines. What I want to do is count the number of unique order numbers for each salesman during a period. Here's what I have to work with:

Data

In the example above, if my date range were 1/1/2011 through 1/31/2011, JBLACK would have 1 unique order and DGREEN would have 1 unique order. If my date range were 12/1/2010 through 1/31/2011, the JBLACK would have 2 unique orders and DGREEN would only have 1 unique order.

My report is such that I have the sales rep full name, their user ID (ie JBLACK), total for sales, etc, and then one for a order count. Above I have to cells, one called RPTFROM which is the beginning date for my range and one called RPTTO for the ending date of my range.

After reading through the forums, I'm pretty confident that the whole sum(if(frequency formula described is what I need to do, but I just can't seem to get through this thick old head how it works.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
