Everyday we produce so much product and we want to display the numbers for the week. The totals for the day are updated daily and I'm trying to have the display show the totals for the week without having to update the display.

You may be able to use a SUMIF or SUMIFS formula to get what you want.

If you need a more detailed explanation, then you are going to need to provide more detailed information, such as your sheet is constructed, what your current date looks like, and what you want your expected output to look like. The more detailed the question you give us, the more detailed a response we can give you.

I am updating cell a2 with a total from another sheet and I need the number from a2 to be added to the already existing value in a3 so that the value in a3 is yesterdays total plus a2

What is currently in cells A2 and A3?
Formulas or hard-coded values?
If hard-coded values, how are they getting updated.

Have you taken a look at SUMIF or SUMIFS?
If your underlying data has a date field, you should just be able to use that with SUMIF/SUMIFS to dynamically total the value for the previous and current days.

A2 is todays production total just the number A2 updates daily from another sheet and A3 is todays A2 plus yesterdays A3

How, exactly? Is someone manually doing it, or is it a formula?

tbuss, I am really trying to help you, but you are really giving me very little to work with here.
Since you don't seem to be big on providing details, and don't seem to want to look into the suggestions I gave you, it would be most helpful if you used the tools mentioned in my posts to post images of your data. Otherwise, I am afraid there is really nothing more I can do for you.
