Excel: Web Queries Fail with Web 2.0

Problem: The previous editions of this book showed how to pull stock quotes from the web using Data, From Web. This worked great every five minutes for a couple years, but then it stopped working.

Strategy: The old web query technology was designed to get a table from a static HTML page. Now, with javascript and flash and HTML5, the web query is often not seeing any tables on the page.

If you need to get data from the web, download the free Power Query add-in and use the From Web option in Power Query.
